The use of competitive ad filters will allow you to block certain competitor’s ads from being displayed on your website pages. With Google you may enter 200 URL’s. Many webmasters feel there is no competition because they’re not AdWords advertisers, but they could be losing money due to Arbitragers and MFA sites.

Made for Arbitrage and AdSense

Made for AdSense is otherwise known as MFA.  There is rarely content in these sites, they are placed only to make money off of the Google AdSense ads. Some sites will only type up a header and the rest of the page is purely ads. You do not want to provide backlinks to these sites. These sites can affect your AdSense income. There is a very low CPC rate on these sites so they catch traffic as low cost as possible. When you check your AdSense invoice and find figures like 1-3 cent clicks, it is probably due to an MFA site. The following is an example of just how this works.

• MFA’s bid minimal amounts on keywords in your site
• The MFA ad shows up in your site
• A viewer clicks the MFA ad and you make a big 1-3 cents for the click
• The MFA site has only ads and to leave the reader clicks on one of their ads making the MFA site $1 and even more sometimes.
• This is enough that an MFA site can produce 50-500% return

This process is known as the PPC Arbitrage and will affect your income from AdSense. The user leaves unsatisfied and you loose a viewer. When a client comes to your site they expect to find more information when clicking on ads, they do not want to be stuck in the black hole of ad madness. Google can easily stop this from happening but choose to ignore it because they are making loads of money.  The fact is, whether a client is clicking an ad on your site or the site of an MFA Google gets paid! As long as this is happening, there will always be another Arbitrager making another MFA site to take away any profit that a legitimate site may otherwise be making.

The Competitive Ad filter application

If you use the Competitive Ad filter to block out the MFA sites on your pages, Google can put higher paying ads on your site.

To block ads, you need to place the URL of the destination or the display in your filter. The display URL is the one that is within the text in the ad.  Not all ads have this so you may need the destination URL to filter it properly.

To get the destination URL of an ad you can look at the link properties or use an AdSense preview tool. The preview tool is suggested by Google because it is simple to use, be sure you do not click the ad itself because then you will be in violation of the TOS for AdSense and you could be banned from using it.

An easy way to block the low paying CPC sites or the MFA’s is by using the Ads Black list. You will get a list of 50 MFA sites that you can filter and if you become a paying member you will be allowed the current limit of 200 that Google allows.

The Ads Black List is easy to use. All you need to do is enter your URL of your site and click the button “Get Black List” when they give you the list all you have to do is copy and paste each URL into your Competitive Ad Filter. If you implement this idea it can take up to 12 hours for the ads to start getting blocked there is one site among many you may want to block and that is tinyurl [dot] com because MFA sites frequently use this site to camouflage their URL’s.

Hopefully in the future Google will increase the limit for the Competitive Ad Filter but that is unlikely because of the amount of money they make off of these sites. If you use these tools to block some of the larger MFA Arbitragers, you will see an increase on your earnings from your AdSense. If more sites start using these simple steps we may be able to get the MFA’s to start increasing bids or close up shop, but it is not likely that will be done any time soon.

Usually while conducting a search, only the top 3 links of that search result are ever visited.

Search Engine Optimization, otherwise known as SEO is the way to get the search engines to do the work for you. These tips will allow you to utilize SEO techniques to help your company get higher rankings on the search engines within a month.  Many techniques are free of charge, but we will go over some that have a minimal charge to boost your traffic to your site.

The SEO breakdown:  We will use the example of a shoe store. You sell all types, orthopedic, designer and mass production shoes. Your goal is to be at the top of all of the search engine lists that we have mentioned above.

1. Do the search – First perform a search on what it is you do. Check out the competition. Look through their page and see if they really offer what it claims. Some sites are only on the internet for advertising dollars.
2. Fill your domain name, Title Page, Meta tags, and content with the keywords that are pertinent to you and what you have to offer. These are the keywords that someone will use to find you on the internet. The keywords are searched for, and the search engines like Google will crawl for these words and find your site.
3. Designing your own page – Make sure the home page of your site is all about the shoes, create a cascading effect for each item such as orthopedic, designer etc. this way you are allowing yourself the room on the new page to add more detail about orthopedic shoes that you offer, this way you will create another set of keyword rich text for each item.
4. Repetition- repeat your keywords throughout the text, normally a 2% density should suffice here. Try to use your keywords in different phrases such as “cheap orthopedic shoes” or “the best orthopedic shoes” and remember to use these phrases in title tags and Meta tags for the best results. The crawlers will be able to then see what the content of your site is.
5. Submit your domain – You should submit your domain to all of the popular search engines as soon as possible, these search engines can take a couple weeks to register you so timing is the key. Get it submitted as soon as possible.
6. Make your website use friendly as soon as you can. Make sure you have your links up and your back links up, it takes time to do this and regular updates are necessary. Make it functional and useable for your clients to enjoy right away.

Google has a habit of creating social networks that don’t seem to match up to the likes of Facebook, Twitter and My Space, but don’t leave them out of the race yet.  When Orkut was limited in India and Brazil, the hype was quickly lost but they have done it again. Author: gmail.com- this allows you to find messages that are written by a specified user, you can even employ the use of partial names.

Commenter:@gmail.com – this allows you to find all comments from a specified user.

Adding has: photo or has: link to your search will restrict results to only messages that contain photos or links. (Example: Canada has: photo)

You can also view Google Buzz photos in slideshow format.

Keep in mind that when you upload a photo to Google Buzz it will be added to Picasas web album. When you click a thumbnail Google Buzz opens a light box which helps to navigate with ease between your images. There is no option for slideshow but it is available in the Picasas website.

Many people with blogging websites actually have no clue as to how they can promote their site properly. In many cases they do not even write the proper content or “on site” promotions in their blogs. If an error is made in the very beginning there is not even a reason to continue because it will be a waste of your time. When writing your blog it is important to use the keywords that will properly attract the audience you’re looking for. This is accomplished by using free tools that are used to perform keyword research for you.

There are rules to keep in mind when trying to optimize your content and here are a few you will want to keep in the back of your mind.

1. Don’t overuse your keywords – The density of your article should range between only 2 and 3 percent. People running the search engines can spot the over usage very easily, the site with the most keywords is not always the winner. Your articles must make sense at the same time.
2. Use your keyword in the beginning - keep your keyword close to the beginning of your article, at least one time in the first paragraph. If your title is Purebred dogs, make sure your using those exact words in the beginning of your articles.
3. Don’t ruin your post with keywords – It is easy to want to fill your whole article with the same keywords over and over but this will make it undesirable to read and you will lose the quality of your post. Make sure you are placing keywords in a manner that is pleasing to the eye and simple to read.
4. Stay focused – Keep the content information rich and use your keyword selectively. This is important and you should always make sure that your post is not keyword overflow, just keyword rich. If you want to be placed high in the search engines you can not forget this rule, a high rank is important and keyword usage is the make or break tool.

Typography is important for any web page as well as all other type of medium.  Everything that is put into making a page look interesting tot read and enjoy all comes down to typography. There is a lot of competition for viewer numbers and it is important to make your site look inviting to readers.

There are no excuses when it comes to typography and if your page shows poor design you may already be behind the game. Here we will explain some of the some of the fundamentals that will allow you to create a page that is not only attractive but different than the rest of your competition. If you’re a web designer, you will be able to take comfort in knowing that much of your competition has poor design and this fact will put you ahead of the game. Web designers have to use the typography techniques and tools along with other media choices that will be aimed specifically at the audience you want to attract.

There are a set of unique problems for someone designing a web page because not only do you on your screen, you have to make all of your choices discreetly due to other computer platforms, sizes of screens and the communication needs of all of your viewers. You will need to work with the impact you want to have on viewers, the style and text of corresponding properties that are involved with the typeface it uses.

Typography means – If your audience is children, you will not use the same design as if you were typing for a political audience, and if your target is the political audience you would not choose the same formatting as you would for a page designed for a financial website. So as you can see your typography wants to be intertwined with the context and background that is best suited for your audience.

Text alignment – If you align to the left it will allow the viewer to read faster because it will give a focal point for the eye when starting to read the next line of text.

Line length – If you allow about 9 to 10 words per line it will give the viewer a higher reading speed. If your concern is in performance then you will want to use a longer line length. Viewers read at a faster rate when the lines are long but most prefer the shorter length.

Heading – You should make your heading about 130% of the text. But the longer the length of the line, the bigger the heading should be. For instance, a newspaper article is short in line length therefore they can have a smaller heading and they use the smaller font to fit as much information in the article as possible.

Font – the font needs to fit the subject matter. If you start to use more than one font it distracts the reader. Your heading should be in a bold Times new roman and the text is normally written in times new roman normal font. The cleaner looking the article or information the better the reader will comprehend your text. Mixing fonts is not advisable and does not look good.

Italics - If you must use them, use them sparingly because it does not translate well and is especially harder to read in a smaller sized text letter. Try not to use them on larger areas of your text and it will greatly improve the overall look.

Capitol letters – The use of Capitol letters is not recommended for all of your text, it makes it more difficult to read and the uniformity can throw a viewer off, even in the heading it is better to stay away from using full upper case letters. If using capitols in your heading, use them on the first letter of the word and it will allow an easier flow for the reader.

Contrast – The best contrast is a light background with dark words and vice versa, so keep this in mind when choosing your contrast colors.

Underscore links – it is a good idea to underscore all of your links so the viewer can easily identify what is and is not a link you should not be depending only upon a mouse over to highlight your links.

Scanners – You should know that most people when visiting a web page only scan through them so offer bold type on your headings and fill the first paragraphs with as much useful information as possible. It is better to use bullets and lists too as to break up the text and make it more inviting for the viewer. This is especially important if your website is offering a service.

Now that we have gone over some of the fundamentals you need to keep in mind how you use typography to better exploit your website content. It is done in a well thought out manner and with an objective eye. You will either gain or loose just by the typography you use so be careful in selecting the right combinations that will best fit your target audience and you will be pleased with the final results.
