Okay, last hours of the competition, the poll is closing on February 13th.

Who will take $1000 + 5 years of hosting from Lunar Pages home? Up until today I was leading and within one hour I fell behind with over 50 votes. Was expected, ain’t it always the common auctions’ technique, to keep the joker up your sleeve and then hit on the last minute…? Currently Daisy Dream is winning and my ModernMagic is falling behind. There are still a few hours to change the situation, if you want, please cast your vote for the theme you like best.
Last Day to Vote for ModernMagic

So, Valentine’s Day is close, what are your plans? To my total surprise I discovered it’s on the 14th, I was sure it’s on the 12th of February. Yay, I am so romantic. Anyway, how about you? My rough guess is, since it’s a more web development related blog, most people will vote for “working is more important”, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I am really curious to see your votes!

Back in 2004, I met a guy who taught me html and how to build a site. He was already an experienced programmer specializing in Java games for mobile phones (which you can download free), while for me source code and Chinese letters looked pretty much the same. Today, we are still in touch, and I still learn something new from him every day. Here are just few recent tricks I learnt from his successfully growing blog — 4webz.com.

1. How to double the traffic. This is a very simple and easy trick to doubling your traffic from Search Engines. I had seen the impressive results on 4webz.com and went ahead, doing the same. Results are fast and impressive. All you need to do it add a auto translation plug in By Nothing 2 Hide. This small add-on, automatically translates all your website to 13 languages and creates a multi-lingual version of your blog, which shortly gets indexed by Google and whoever will be searching for a keywords that match your post in their own language (Spanish, French, Russian, and more) will get to your website.

2. How to double the revenue. Although I came to this conclusion myself already on some websites, it took me over a year to figure that Adsense is not always the best way for making money online, especially if you run a blog. Placing a gambling related banner for 1 month or posting one short review of a gambling site can bring more income than 5 months of Adsense spread allover your blog. So always consider what’s more money making, Adsense or private ads, and take things in proportion, if you cannot display them together.

3. How to save time while working. As being a programmer, the admin of 4webz.com, Tomas, realizes the value of various plug-ins and how they can make one’s life easier. 4webz.com is stuffed with plug in for almost any case and as a result, everything is done n one click, be it post editing, sidebar modifications or feed submission to mobile or other feed readers. Contrary to common belief, even having a dozen of plug-ins enable, does not slow down the site’s loading time, yet significantly simplifies your working process and as I said already — saves time. 4Webz.com uses WP Admin Bar Reloaded, Akismet, All in One SEO Pack, WordPress Database Backup and more.

4. How to measure your connection speed. Finally, and this is not web development related yet can help all of us — Speedmeter. This is a great online tool published on 4webz.com which allows you to measure your internet connection speed in real time. If you feel your browser is crawling slow, just check your Internet speed to see where is the problem.

My learning journey from my Tomas and his other websites will never come to end, there is always more nethings to pick up from those we look up to, and I hope you can learn from his skills as well!

Finally I found something really worth mentioning. The internet is heading to such a low level that finding a truly worthy source of educational and interesting information is really rare. Today I accidentally stumbled upon s9.com and ended up searching and reading that site for over an hour. This is a Biographical Dictionary that consists from over 33,000 notable persons who have shaped our world’s history. You will find names from the ancient times up to most recent political figures. The s9.com website offers convenient search either by ABC or manually by inputting one’s name in the search. Every person’s bio comes along with a photo (or a statue portrait, if this is someone from the older days), detailed chronicled biography, nationality, category where he or she is listed and, of course, year of death and birth.

The curious minds will also enjoy their quiz at s9.com/MasterChallenge, very challenging and interesting questions based on, obviously, biographies of men and women listed on the site. Highly recommended to visit and bookmark, it’s better than Wiki in my humble opinion, as you can see the timelines and the events without having to read too much irrelevant facts.

This morning a new version of WordPress has been released, fixing yet another set of critical bugs an issues. Mainly it concerns though who have registration requires in order to comment, this release fixes a security vulnerability it exposed. According to WordPress, the flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow a user to edit posts of other users on that blog. The interesting fact is that the latest version (2.3.2) was released over a month ago and only now the “flaw” popped out. That’s not a very operative bugs fish-out! Well, ever since the 2.3.2 version was released I had a feeling it’s not perfect. If your host does not offer automatic upgrade, get the latest version here: http://wordpress.org/download/

The latest stable release of WordPress (Version 2.3.3) is available in two formats from the links to your right. If you have no idea what to do with this download, we recommend signing up with one of our web hosting partners that offers a one click install of WordPress or getting a free account on WordPress.com.

We’ve got information on installation and upgrading if you need it. If the admin looks a little scrambled after you upgrade just make sure to refresh the page in your browser (F5 on Windows) to reload and get the new styling.

Okay, I have just installed the great wordpress plug in that allows you to embed video into the blog post. As most of us know, by default wordpress reformats the “embedded” code so you can’t actually post the video, now I finally can. Yay, after the blog has been online for over a year. Okay, so the first video I am going to “embed” is a dance video from one Ukrainian band called “ViaGra”. Despite the spammy looking name, it’s translated from their language as “Band Game”. Watch this video before it will get removed from YouTube, as it probably will be. If you don’t enjoy the music or the lyrics, you sure will enjoy watching these 2 beautiful ladies ;)

You may wonder what could possibly happen if you advertise yourself and your life online? Well, here are just some of the possible threats and dangerous outcome of not being too careful.

You’d attract a sex offender - If you post sexy photographs of yourself in your facebook account and you keep your profile public, you might get the attention of a sex offender. And, considering that you are very much happy in advertising yourself, most likely you have also included some important details in your profile that would make it a lot easier for the sex offender to track you down.

You attracted a criminal- If you show the world how wealthy and popular you are, you may end up luring those unwanted criminals and they may track you down and God knows what they could do to you.

You attracted a pedophile- If you are underage and you started joining social networking sites such as facebook, your innocence may get the best out of you. These pedophiles know how to manipulate young minds and you may end up losing more than your dignity once hooked.

Photo stealing - You have no one else to blame but yourself if you’d suddenly find your photograph circulating on the internet that had been photoshopped and added a naked body to match your beautiful head. If wanna read more controversial articles click to following site:

This is actually unbelievable.

About a week ago, Lunar Pages started their wordpress design contest and I called my readers to vote for the theme they like best. Unlike many others, I don’t think calling people to vote for yourself is ethical (unless they are maybe your very close friends) but some do blatantly ask for it, and judging by the votes casted so far, are going to win as well.

I did not think my theme, Modern Magic, had much chances even to get the 3rd place, but checking some pings today and the forum posts I made, I was totally blown by how many people support me (and it actually helps greatly because up until 4 days ago I had only 20 votes!). Today I had seen the famous pixel2life.com admin — Dan, who probably noticed it after I tried to promote the contest in P2L forum, making a support post for me… Thanks Dan! Yesterday, my friend Tom has made an awesome post about my themes on his blog and asked people who like my layouts to vote as well. Thanks Tom!

That’s not all. I got a lot of fantastic support words (and not only words!!!) from Gx3Grafix.com, Web Talk Forums, SapNap Directory, and many many others. I want to use this opportunity and thank you… *holds the Oscar tight with both hands, sheds a tear*… for all the great and warm support throughout these days!

Okay. Wanna help? Please DIGG the contest or VOTE for the theme you like best.

I am really not afraid to compete against (or lose to) better designs and I honestly believe all the 12 entries worth a prize, so all I ask is — please, vote for the design you truly, truly like.
